Lib Dems
Just got an email from Charles Kennedy. After his personal statement he opened up a leadership challenge and so far not 1 MP has said he'll stand against his leader, so when the race is open for nominations Mr. Kennedy has just announced to the membership that he will NOT put his name forward and will be standing down from the leadership of the Lib Dems. Personally I hope that Sir Menzies Campbell MP put his name in the hat cos i'd vote for him.

can't see it making a difference... the Lib Dems still aren't a party of government, and cannot expect to be for a long time yet.

I still maintain that they make an excellent platform for social change, but with all 3 of the major political parties now occupying the centre of the political spectrum the Lib Dems have no easily graspable shtick any more.. couple this with no natural power base and I just cannot see them as a governing party.

However having said that I do like Menzies Cambpell

Much as I would like to disagree and say we are ready to lead, we're not. But we would make a better opposition that the tories and once we get into opposition we could really shine and carry some good social change. Personally i think we'd be better served leaning to the left of centre and tacking up some of the ground that 'old' labour left open'

Ming the Merciless ? If the vote actually gets as far as the party membership, he'll probably suffer for being the one who really stuck the knife into Kennedy. (PS, factoid of the day, did you know he was an Olympic athlete at one time ?) Of the other likely runners, Hughes manages to rub just about everyone up the wrong way and Oaten's wouldn't be bad if anybody had ever heard of him.
